The ultimate activation: transforming open space into a cultural epicenter.
PIK Community Park 2 in Jakarta is a seaside community hub that combines panoramic ocean views with vibrant pathways, event spaces, and exercise facilities. Designed for leisure and wellness, it supports activities from yoga to concerts while fostering social connection. With its iconic link bridge and coastal setting, the park creates a cherished destination where recreation, culture, and nature come together.
Situated on 4.7 Ha of open, reclaimed terrain in Tangerang, this park plays a strategic role in the spatial framework of PIK 2. Originally conceived as a transitional buffer between the waterfront and inland development, its transformation into a public park sets a vital precedent for the growing district. It introduces walkability and identity, establishing from the outset how landscape can structure movement and anchor public life in a new coastal city.

The reclaimed coastal site presented a formidable set of challenges. The terrain was defined by flat topography, poor drainage, and saline soils, all while being constantly exposed to intense sun and wind. This harsh environment lacked both ecological diversity and thermal comfort. The primary challenge was to cultivate a welcoming public space, requiring salt-tolerant planting, thoughtful grading to manage runoff, and design strategies that could provide shelter and comfort on a completely open canvas.

The ultimate activation: transforming open space into a cultural epicenter.

Our vision was passionately focused on a single theme: connection. We designed the park as a journey that links people to programs and the evolving coastal environment. The promenade unfolds into a variety of spaces: quiet, shaded corners for art and reflection, active zones for sports and play, and vast open fields for large gatherings. These distinct moments are woven together by continuous pathways and anchored by key architectural elements, notably a pair of twin pavilions and an iconic pedestrian bridge that solves a critical gap in connectivity.

The park’s development was a knowledgeable and responsive process. The most significant adaptation occurred during construction, when the pedestrian bridge was reimagined. Originally planned as a modest connector, it was widened to accommodate event-scale gatherings, transforming it from a simple crossing into the park's central civic stage. This decision reflected the park's evolving identity from a quiet neighborhood green space to a high-capacity public destination and showcased a flexible approach that adapted the design to meet shifting expectations in real time.

Today, Community Park PIK 2 functions as a key public destination and cultural catalyst for the region. Having already hosted major music festivals, the park has proven its role as a powerful setting for collective joy and participation. It seamlessly shifts between large-scale civic events and quiet, personal moments, becoming part of the everyday rhythm of the waterfront. In doing so, it achieves its ultimate goal: transforming a plot of reclaimed land into a living, breathing space that forges a shared public identity for the new community.
