Beyond Mall Extension, Summarecon Mall Bekasi 2 Unveiled

February 5, 2026

With the opening of Summarecon Mall Bekasi 2, we are witnessing a fundamental shift in commercial space, from a closed retail box to a permeable lifestyle compound. Our design was not just to expand the mall, but to introduce a model one where commerce plays a supporting role to wellness, play, and human connection.

Extending from Existing Mall

As the doors opened, the shift in energy was palpable. Children immediately claimed the Koi Playground, creating a center of gravity that allowed parents to explore the surrounding tenants at a slower, more leisurely pace. Upstairs, the rooftop proved its dual purpose: the quiet splash of the recreational pool offered a calm escape, while the cheers from the Padel courts and the rhythm of the jogging track injected a pulse of active life.

From families lounging on the planter-integrated seating to the crowds moving through the open corridors, the verdict was clear, Summarecom Mall Bekasi 2 is a place to visit this weekend.

Lets take a look on Summarecon Mall Bekasi 2

The Active Ground

At the ground level, we challenged the traditional layout. Instead of prioritizing high-yield retail frontage, we defined Water as the primary magnet. The Water Play feature was designed to bring the element closer to people, especially children, inviting touch and interaction rather than just visual appreciation.
This active energy of the Koi Playground is balanced by the Koi Pond and its surrounding greenery in passive zones. By creating these “calming pockets” adjacent to the retail edges, we offer a rare moment of quiet in Bekasi’s bustling urban fabric. The paving pattern reinforces this energy, acting not just as a surface, but as a visual guide that stitches the retail, the active play, and the passive nature into one vibrant outdoor room for families.

The Rooftop Sanctuary

Moving upward, the narrative shifts from Play to Performance. The rooftop is designed as a dedicated Wellness Compound, proving that a mall roof can function as an athletic and restorative destination.
The design splits into two distinct energies: First, The Restorative Zone. Anchored by recreational pools, this area allows visitors to disengage from the city noise, offering a serene escape on top of Summarecon Mall Bekasi.
Second, The Sports Alley. This is a high-energy zone featuring Padel courts, basketball courts, and a jogging track to facilitate active social connection. Proving that retail can encourage an active lifestyle and nurture interactions.

Designing with Constraints

Faced with strict structural weight limits and restricted soil depths, we could not simply plant a forest. Instead, we employed a strategy of Strategic Elevation. By elevating soil levels only in specific zones where tree planting was critical. This allowed us to accommodate the biological needs of large shade trees without compromising the structural integrity of the building, creating a seamless integration of landscape architecture and structural reality.

Summarecon Mall Bekasi 2 proves that urban retail can be a restorative force. By integrating play, wellness, and leisure into a seamless biophilic compound, we have created a space where families do not just merely shops, they come to breathe, move, and connect.
