Gathered in Taman Semanggi, crowds surrounded large masterplan boards revealing a bold vision. A collaboration initiative of The The Jakarta Provincial Government, Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Agency, and PT. Media Indra Buana. This ambitious project will officially transform 6 hectares of green space in the heart of the metropolis and build a new pride for Jakarta.
From Mobility Node to Living Ecosystem
Since 1962, the Semanggi intersection has stood as a powerful symbol of Jakarta’s progress and modern mobility, functioned primarily as a major mobility node, passed by millions of vehicles daily. Recently, the city began weaving human life back into the site through the addition of dedicated bicycle and pedestrian lanes. Now, our vision is to complete this paradigm shift. Taman Semanggi will undergo a progressive transformation from a concrete traffic knot into a humanistic and ecological green space.

Regeneration, Reconnection, Reactivation
To achieve this monumental shift across 6 hectares without disrupting the city’s main traffic artery, SIURA Studio anchors the design on three core principles:
- Regeneration
Healing the Land and Water: We are treating the site as a massive ecological sponge. By implementing Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), we are transitioning the landscape into a functional stormwater management system. By integrating natural ponds, wetlands, rain gardens, and bio-swales. These features are engineered to naturally slow down water runoff, improve the microclimate, and increase the soil’s absorption capacity.
- Reconnection
Stitching the Fragmented Space: Currently, the four quadrants of Semanggi are isolated islands separated by heavy traffic. We are stitching them back together. Introducing dedicated pedestrian and bicycle bridges to integrate the entire area. These elevated connections allow users to navigate safely without creating new conflict points with the main road. Below, layered vegetation and softscape will act as a deep, natural buffer against vehicle emissions and noise.
- Reactivation
Designing for the Human Scale: We are reclaiming the green space directly for the public. The park is designed to be accessible 24 hours a day, catering to both the daily commuter and the weekend family. The programming includes a 1.2-kilometer looping jogging track, an open amphitheater, an outdoor gym, and a heritage walk. For restorative moments, visitors can utilize the yoga deck, therapeutic forest walk, and the wetland boardwalk.

The Future of Jakarta
For decades, this intersection engineered to prioritize speed. Now, we are engineering it to prioritize life. Transforming this historic landmark into a living public hub sends a clear message: true urban resilience goes beyond ecology. Taman Semanggi is a testament to Jakarta’s future, by honoring its profound historical legacy, restoring its natural systems, and creating a social sanctuary where human wellbeing takes center stage.
